from Eating Disorders

MY SERVICES

At HealthySelf Recovery, I offer personalized support for individuals and their caregivers in their journey with eating disorder recovery.

  • Working with college students who have a treatment team in place, with whom I collaborate to support throughout their college experience.

  • Helping parents and caregivers who are treating their child at home or whose child has recently been discharged from an inpatient program.

  • Supporting individuals of any age who have a treatment team in place, but could additionally could use support with eating disorder behaviors.

  • Bridging the gap from the time of diagnosis until a treatment team has been formed, to start toward recovery without losing precious time.

ABOUT BRI

I am a Carolyn Costin Institute-certified eating disorder recovery coach in Ann Arbor, Michigan. As a former school counselor, I have extensive experience working with adolescents and their families. I decided to focus solely on helping with eating disorders after realizing how much support for individuals and families is needed in this area. I come from a place of deep understanding, empathy, and experience about the challenges of navigating an eating disorder. I look forward to supporting you and your family through the recovery process.

MY PROCESS

At Healthy Self Recovery, I recognize that recovering or helping a loved one recover from an eating disorder recovery can feel absolutely overwhelming. My goal is to help support you with the periodic struggles that you will face throughout this journey.

I can offer counseling sessions, home visits, text and phone support, and collaboration with all treatment team members. I will meet you where you are in your recovery process, whether by offering guidance as you assemble a treatment team, supporting you during your recovery, or helping with the transition to college and beyond.

Differences between therapist and coach

  • Therapists and licensed mental health practitioners have specialized training to help you examine why and how you developed your eating disorder, and to treat the issues underlying your eating disorder. They are also able to diagnose and treat other psychological issues which might be present, such as depression, anxiety, a trauma history or substance-use disorders.

  • I am a trained coach with the  Carolyn Costin Institute. I do not diagnose or treat conditions, nor do I have the training to delve into more underlying issues. Instead, I am trained to support the work and treatment goals you have set with your therapist or treatment team. I will focus on your present challenges and help you in identifying and tackling eating disorder behaviors. If underlying issues do come up in a coaching session, I can listen and empathize, and help you find ways to raise those issues with your therapist or physician.

  • Therapists generally work from an office and sessions are generally an hour long. As a coach, in addition to meeting with you weekly, our relationship can be structured so that we have more frequent communication, through various channels (e.g., texts, calls, etc.).
